Offer Quality Content & Services

Interesting sites will increase their recognition on their own.

When you create compelling ad useful content, that will likely influence your website more that any other factor or your website design.  Users know good content when they see it and will refer other people to it.  This could be thru blog posts, social media, email, forums or other means.

Organic and word-of-mouth buzz is what helps build your site’s reputation with both users and search engines, and it rarely comes without quality content.

All Users Are Not Alike

The search phrases that people use varies depending on their interest, skill level in the subject, and understanding.  Users who know a lot about a topic might use different words in their search queries that someone who is new to the subject.  If you anticipate these differences and account for them while writing your content (using a good mix of keywords and phrases) will produce positive results.

Consider creating a new, useful service that no other site offers.  You could also write an original piece of research, break an exciting news story, or leverage your unique user base.  Other sites may lack the resources or expertise to do these things.

Some Basics For Generating New Content

  1. Write Easy to Read Text
    • People like to read things that are easy to understand.  Don’t get too technical, using with large words that only 20% of the population understands.  Break it up so that it’s not laid out in huge paragraphs that may overwhelm your users.
  2. Stay Organized
    • Keep topics and sub-topics seperate.  This will help your users and search engines navigate easily through your site without having to sift thru information that isn’t relevant to what they are looking for.
  3. Create Fresh, Unique Content
    • Avoid duplicating someone else’s content.  This may aggravate users who are looking for something in particular and keep coming accross the same material.  Also, unique content will keep your existing visitors coming back, and bring in new ones.
  4. Create Content For Visitors, Not Search Engines
    • I know this seems a little odd, but search engines aren’t going to pay you money.  They may serve you people that pay you money, but you still have to sell the person.  If your site brings in thousands of visitors every month, but it doesn’t read well enough for anyone to stay and see the point, well then there is no point, is there?  When visitors like your site, they stay, come back and refer others.
